Here are the top 5 questions we get asked about noisy brakes and what to do about them:
When you apply your brakes, pressure on the rotor slows the wheels down and stops your car. With properly functioning brakes, you should hear minimal if any metal to metal noise. Typically, the first sign of brake-pad wear is a high-pitched squealing. A metallic grinding sound means that brake pads may be damaging the brake rotors, and immediate attention is required. This grinding sound is how you know your rotors are going bad. Brake dust doesn’t just show up. It is mostly iron that comes from the abrasion of the rotors and the pads, and some cars have more of an issue than others. However, it does not typically require attention… just cleaning if it bothers you. Other sounds like thumping in the front or rear of your car while braking can indicate an issue with the drums or rotors, and should be checked out by your mechanic ASAP.

Thanks for pointing out that high-pitched squealing is one of the first signs of wear and tear in your brakes. I guess I need to take my car to an automotive repair shop tomorrow to get that checked, because I heard about that issue this evening. I am lucky that I did not get into an accident because of that, especially when the road was wet last night that is why I have to get it addressed now before it gets worse.

I was really alarmed when you mentioned high-pitch squealing as something that can be a sign that your brakes need work. This has already been happening for a few days now, and I never paid it much attention since it didn't seem like my vehicle's performance was suffering at all. Now that I know what this could mean, I'll go and take my car to an auto repair expert to get my brakes fixed right away.

It got me when you said that there might be damage in the brakes' rotors when there is a metallic rindign noise which has to be fixed immediately. I will tell this my brother after hearing it when he drove for me earlier. He should take it to an automotive service shop as soon as possible to prevent further issues.
